April Showers & Finals Week: Stormy Start Before a Cooler Finish
Happy Monday, Hilltoppers!
This week starts off on a fairly calm note, with a mostly sunny day before showers develop late tonight. We’re expecting a high of 82° and a low of 64°, with a breezy southerly wind around 10 mph (gusts even higher at times). While the daytime hours look quiet, conditions will begin to change heading into the evening.
Severe Weather Note:
According to the latest National Weather Service forecast discussion, strong to severe thunderstorms are expected Monday evening into Tuesday, with the greatest risk west of I-65. Damaging winds will be the primary concern, though large hail and even a brief tornado cannot be ruled out, especially in western areas. Another round of strong storms is possible Tuesday evening into the overnight hours, bringing additional threats of wind and hail.
Moving into Tuesday, the rain does not let up, showers and thunderstorms are likely through much of the day, gradually clearing closer to the evening hours. Some breaks are possible, but overall, it will remain an unsettled and active weather day.
Wednesday continues the trend with lingering showers, though we will finally begin to see improvement later in the day as cooler air filters in behind the system. By Thursday, conditions shift noticeably, with mostly sunny skies returning and a much cooler high around the mid-60s.
Rolling into the weekend, temperatures will stay in the mid-60s with a mix of cloudy to mostly clear skies. High pressure builds, bringing a quieter, more comfortable stretch of weather, perfect timing as we wrap up the semester.
Overall, this final week of classes will be wet, stormy at times early on, and much cooler by the weekend. Stay weather-aware at the start of the week , keep an eye on any warnings, and then enjoy the calmer conditions ahead.
Stay dry, stay safe, and keep studying, Hilltoppers!
