Mississippi Students Try Their Hand at TV Weather Forecasting
Students at North Woolmarket Elementary and Middle School in Harrison County, Mississippi are learning what it takes to become TV meteorologists.
The school recently launched a student meteorologist program that teaches kids about weather forecasting while helping them build confidence on camera.
Students practice presenting forecasts just like professionals, with guidance from Sam Lucey, a meteorologist from WXXV-TV, who visited the class to explain how forecasts are prepared.
Teachers say the hands-on program helps students connect with science and see potential career paths in meteorology.
Some students are even giving up their recess to take part in the program.
