Woman Sentenced to 20 Years for Killing Memphis Pastor After Affair Ended
An Arkansas woman will spend the next 20 years in prison for fatally shooting a Memphis pastor after he ended their affair.
On Tuesday, a judge sentenced Latoshia Daniels to 20 years for second-degree murder in the 2019 shooting that killed Pastor Brodes Perry and injured his wife.
Daniels tearfully apologized in court, telling the Perry family she was “godly sorrowful” and never meant to hurt anyone.
Prosecutors said the sentence, which falls in the middle of the 15-to-25-year range, offers some measure of justice for the family. They had originally sought a first-degree murder conviction.
Defense attorneys argued Daniels was experiencing a mental health crisis at the time and pointed to her lack of criminal history and remorse shown behind bars. However, the judge ruled that heartbreak did not justify the deliberate act of killing and imposed a lengthy sentence.
