SOUTH WARREN BEATS GREENWOOD 33-19

(Bowling Green, KY) —South Warren vs Greenwood: After a 30 minute weather delay Greenwood started off strong until penalties and mental mistakes would stall the drive as the Spartans would take over scuffles and penalties would ensue in this heated rivalry. South Warren would break a big run loose all the way down to Greewood’s 10 yard line but we called back due to holding. The Spartans connect on a 15+ yard screen play for the first to keep the driving humming. The Gators defense would get the Spartans to a 4th & 2 as the Gators would pick Camden Page and return it back to the Spartans 20 yard line. The momentum would continue as the Spartans would jump offsides moving the ball closer to the goal line. South Warren would stop Greenwood in the red zone dropping a wide open interception. Greenwood would fake the field goal on 4th down but The Spartans would stop them getting the defense the ball. The drive would get started with another holding penalty on South Warren pushing them back to the 6 yard line. Greenwood’s defense would continue to get in South Warrens head forcing another 3 and out. Greenwood would have the ball on offense at the end of the 1st quarter. Greenwood offense would start with the momentum on offense getting boosted by a pass interference on South Warren. The Gators would continue itching closer to the Goal line connecting on a 8 yard pass. South Warren’s mental mistakes would continue as they jumped offsides again giving Greenwood momentum. Greenwood would capitalize and run it in and score the touchdown going up 7-0 with 9:32 left in the 2nd Quarter. South Warren would change Quarterbacks putting in Chase Bell to try and shift the momentum. However the Gators would clamp down on defense forcing another 3 and out. But The Spartans would wake up and force a 3 and out on a dropped pass by Greenwood. South Warren would put back in Camden Page who would connect with Jake Carter on screen pass for 20+ yards as the Spartans offense would start to wake up in the 2nd Quarter. The Spartans would continue a run and pass attack as the drive down the field on this Gators defense. The Spartans would get some help with a penalty on the Gators defense moving the ball to the 5 yard line. The Spartans’ Camden Page would run it in for the score. The Spartans would fake the extra point as Justin Capps would throw it to a Griffin Reynolds. The next play Greenwood would take the kickoff to the house answering back making the score 13-8 with 2:57 left in the 2nd Quarter. South Warren would throw another interception to this stout Gators defense with 1:39 left in the half. The Gators would continue showing they belong in this heated rivalry breaking open for a 20+ yard run keeping South Warren on their toes. South Warren would continue with the nonstop penalties getting another offsides giving Greenwood the advantage. The Spartans would show force stopping Greenwood with 20 seconds left in the half as they take over on offense. The Spartans would run the 2-minute drill on offense to move fast down the field. South Warren’s Jake Carter would score on a tip drill toe tap touchdown and Camden Page would score the 2 pt conversion to end the half giving South Warren all the momentum going up 16-13 at half. The 3rd Quarter would start off fast as South Warren would drop the opening kickoff but would recover it to start on offense. The Spartans would be backed up on a 3rd & 10 but would convert. Another holding call would push back the Spartans as the run game would continue to be stuffed all game. The Spartans would again get forced to a 3rd down situation an would convert again battling with this Gators defense. This would be a common theme on this drive as the Spartans for the third time on this drive convert another 3rd and long. As the Spartans pass attack is getting open all over this Gator defense. The Spartans would get a broken run all the way down to the Gators 2 yard line with 5:57 left in the 2nd Quarter. South Warren’s Jake Carter would run it in for the score untouched pushing the lead to 10 going up 23-13 with 5:53 left in the 3rd Quarter. The Gators would put themselves in a hole dropping the kickoff getting pinned inside their own 6 yard line. The Gators push forward for the first down keeping not only the drive alive but the game too. However The Spartans would force them to a 3rd & 15 and stop them in the backfield for a tackle for loss giving the offense the ball back with 3:39 left in the 3rd Quarter. South Warren Camden Page rolls out and throws another touchdown for 20+ yards to Jake Carter to increase the lead to 30-13 with 2:36 left in the 3rd Quarter. A Lightning delay would pause things for a while. Greenwood would pick up the energy scoring cutting the lead to 11 making the score 30-19 with 8:15 left in the 4th Quarter. The Spartans would drive down the field but only get a field goal pushing the lead to 14 making the score 33-19. That would be the dagger as South Warren wins 33-19 going to 3-0 on the season. The Spartans hand Greenwood their first loss of the season making the Gators 2-1. South Warren gets ready for their home opener against their biggest rival in the Bowling Green Purples who are 0-3 for the first time since 1958. Greenwood looks to bounce back next week on the road against the Logan County Cougars who are 3-0 on the season for the first time since 2023.
